We R uS LBG, a Ghanaian charity has commenced a subsidized micro-finance scheme for the benefit of the women traders in the Moree township in the Central Region of Ghana, in collaboration with Nana Obokese Ampah I, the Regent of Moree and Apagyahen of Asebu Traditional Area, through his Obokese Foundation.
The subsidized Micro-finance scheme is the brain child of Wisconsin Micro-finance which undertakes similar schemes in many other under-privileged communities around the world, including Thailand, Singapore and a few other countries. The scheme, which lends out money to mostly women traders in struggling communities, is pegged at a rate of interest that is much lower than the normal commercial rates available in such communities, and it has had a resounding record of success everywhere that it has operated.
The Ghana scheme is in a collaboration with We R uS in a deal that was signed in Wiscosin by Prof. Tom Eggert of Wisconsin Micro-finance, and Mr. Ben Brako, the CEO of We R uS. The Moree operation commenced in May 2024, and is already oversubscribed within the community.
